Creative artists should always be given the freedom to express their own ideas (in words, pictures, music or film) in whichever way they wish. There should be no government restrictions on what they do.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
It is hard to deny that artists express freely may spread some wrong ideas widely, and government have to restrict these ideas by one-time solution, and such a fact leads impressionable people to generate the opinion that there should be government restrictions on what artists do. However, such a statement suffers from both logical and factual fallacies, and it should be examined meticulously. As far as equality, culture, and feasibility are concerned, I strongly hold that government should not restrict artists’ own expressions.
First and foremost, all men are created equal, as artists’ expressions should be same respected. To illustrate, creative ideas from artists for various domain are human brain exercises result; Not to mention that, these brain exercises result may grow beautiful cultural flowers in human being history, and with government restrictions, we may miss those excellent ideas.
Furthermore, the fact that culture influence indicates that there should be no government restrictions on artists’ content. Take the case of movie limited policy for ten years ago, which limits movies’ content should not contain scenes with violence, drug or other not well things. However, there are lots of movies that contain those negative scenes are also good movies, like ‘Leon’, ‘The Godfather’ and so on. As a result, we couldn’t watch outstanding domestic films but from imported, because limiting movie creator creative imagination lower films quality and quantity at that time. Had it not been for the restrictions on film ideas removing these years, our domestic movie industry may never be great again.
Nevertheless, a voice arises that limited action for artists is feasible if government need. Ironically, expressions can be restricted but what artists and their audiences thoughts can’t be restricted; in addition, people can always find another ways to express the same point, which means what government restrict today and it may revival tomorrow. So government regulation is rather better than restriction. Therefore, limiting artists expressions is not a feasible approach.
In a nutshell, I maintain that there should be no government restrictions on what artists express, and I believe opponent will compromise after being exposed to my article.
